Halloween Week

Dear Families,

We hope you all enjoyed the Halloween party on Friday night – what a spooky feast it was! It was great to see so many fantastic costumes on kids and parents alike.

Here’s what you need to know for this (even spookier) week:

Tomorrow evening (Monday, October 28) at 6:30 pm, there is a parents’ Core Curriculum ELA Workshop in the auditorium with Mr. Ferrara and a dean from MS 158. Learn more about the English Language segment of the Core Curriculum – what your child will be learning, and how you can help. A light dinner will be provided.

The blue registration forms for the after-school Self-Sustaining program are due this week. The fee is $85 per class. Children in the SASF after-school program can enroll; counselors pick them up after their program and escorts them to SASF.

The annual Penny Harvest program has begun – gather up those pennies (and nickels, dimes, and quarters, too!) for collection.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes will be distributed tomorrow.

See you at school,

Contributions for Ms. Niemis

Important News
As many of you may have heard, a member of the PS41 family suffered a heartbreaking loss last week. One of our new third-grade teachers, Ms. Niemis, lost her husband very suddenly, at age 37. The family has four young children, ages 18 months to 11 years. Class 3-104 is taking up a collection from her students as a gesture of support. Families with children in other classes have asked how they can help – if you’d like to contribute to the class collection, please put a cash contribution in an envelope addressed to Donna Evangelista, with your family name and your child’s name and class on the outside, and send it in with your child.

Some of the young couple’s friends have started a memorial fund to get the family through the difficult days ahead. If you would like to donate to the family that way, here’s the link:

Darin Finkelstein Family Memorial Fund

The family is well loved in their community, which has stepped up admirably to take care of meals for the coming weeks. A friend is coordinating the schedule through TakeThemAMeal.com, and they are well covered for now. If you’d like to see the schedule or offer to participate in the future, you can see the meal calendar here:

http://www.takethemameal.com/meals.php?t=ESDQ9485

Ms. Niemis’s class is being covered by excellent substitutes, including Mrs. Miller, so the students are in good hands during what is sure to be a confusing time for everyone. All of our hearts go out to this young family during this terrible time.

Halloween Party Updates

Dear Families

Reminders for the Week of October 20:

Halloween Party This Friday Night
Candy donations for the Halloween party should be sent in to school by Wednesday morning so we can stuff goody bags for Friday night’s party. Water bottles and pretzels/chips for the party can be sent in all week.

Please send in baked goods for the party on Friday morning.

Tickets for the Halloween party are being sold in advance ONLY. No tickets will be sold at the door, so be sure to send in your ticket order form no later than Thursday. October 3 Reminders

Dear Families,

Don’t forget that tomorrow morning is the Welcome Back Breakfast for the parents of children in grades 3, 4, and 5. Please come to the cold lunchroom at 9am to meet other parents, talk to PTA representatives, and get to know more about our school. If your child is in a younger grade but you missed last week’s Welcome Back Breakfast, come tomorrow! We’ll be glad to see you.

Other things you need to know this week:

Our catalog fund-raiser has begun — look for information in backpacks, and start selling!

It’s that spooky time of year again, and planning for the Halloween Party has begun. There’s a Halloween Party Committee meeting on Monday, October 7 at 9am – all are welcome. If you can’t make the meeting but are willing to help out at the party, fill out the tear-off that went home in backpacks this week. The party itself is on Friday night, October 25. Kids and parents, start planning those costumes!

Mark your calendars: Our Harvest Bake Sale is next Friday, October 11.

DID YOU KNOW…
If you have a Target credit card, you can register it at Target.com and designate PS41 to receive¬† up to 1% of all purchases you make? Some of you know this, because our school has already received more than $3,000 from Target. But that’s with only 14 registered cards. We can do a lot better than that! Register your card and select PS 041-Crocheron School at
