NEW REPORT CARD PRESENTATION
Thursday, November 6th at 7PM

Join us to learn about the new report cards your children
will be coming home with on 11/10/14.

October 30, 2014

Dear Parents,

The New York City Department of Education has introduced new elementary school report cards this year. Teachers now enter grades online and report cards are then printed. Teachers also select from a menu of relevant pre-approved comments that the DOE has provided. Ultimately, the new report cards look different than what you may have experienced in the past.

If you are interested in learning more about the new report cards, please join us. Mrs. Latto and Mr. Ferrara will show samples of the new report cards and explain the attributes so that you may have a better understanding before report cards are distributed.

Sincerely,

Sari Latto
Principal

Picture Day, PTA Meeting, and Much More!

We hope everyone had an enjoyable Columbus Day weekend. Here are upcoming events for the rest of October:

Oct 14: The Miss Chocolate Sale ended Oct 14th, please promptly return any remaining order forms along with cash, checks or money orders payable to P.S. 41Q-PTA. Thank you for helping to make this a successful sale.

Oct 16: Picture Day and PTA Meeting: Smile! Picture Day is Thursday–send your child in with his/her favorite outfit. Student portraits will be taken as well as class pictures. Yearbook pictures will be taken of our Fifth Graders.

At 7:00 PM, all parents are welcomed to attend the October PTA Meeting where September Students of the Month will be honored. In addition, fifth grade parents interested in working on the Graduation Committee should also attend the meeting right before at 6:00 PM.

Oct 18 (Saturday): Fall Festival and Yard Sale: Bring your friends, this Saturday is the Fall Festival and Yard Sale 9:00-4:30 PM in the PS 41 Backyard (indoors if it’s raining). Come out for some family fun and activities while shopping for some little treasures in our Yard Sale. There will also be hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn and more for sale. We hope to see you there! (Parents donating items to be sold at the PTA table should drop them off by Friday Oct 17th.) See the Fall Festival Yard Sale Flyer.

Oct 21: Parent Math Night: Teachers representing each grade will be on hand from 6:00-7:30 PM to present workshops on how we are teaching math and how it relates to the Common Core Learning Standards. There will be a separate room for each grade so that the information is specific and targeted to that particular grade.

Oct 28: Parent ELA Night: Similar to Parent Math Night, teachers will present workshops on how we are teaching English Language Arts and how it relates to the Common Core.

Oct 31: Happy Halloween! Don’t forget it’s also Crazy Hat/Hair Day, sponsored by the Student Council. Show us your wacky, crazy hat/hair idea during the day. Then at night, come out in your creative costumes and join us for our annual PS 41 Halloween Party from 6:30-9:30 PM. Look out for the flyer regarding tickets in your child’s backpack soon. What a great way to close out this exciting month!

Remember you can always check out the online calendar – if your family already uses Google Calendar you can integrate the school calendar with your own – no more double entries!

National Walk to School Day (and More)

Dear P.S. 41 Families,

We hope all of you are settling in nicely to the new school year. Fall is really in the air now, and we have lots of activity on tap for October. The school calendar went home in backpacks last week, and you can always check out important dates online on our PS41 school calendar. (If you already use Google calendar, remember you can add the PS 41 calendar to yours, so you always have dates handy.)

Here’s what’s coming up:

OCT 8
This Wednesday is National Walk to School Day. This year we are partnering with the national organization, which is mobilizing millions of kids to use their feet instead of riding in cars for one day. Students who walk (all or part of the way) to school that day, or who ride the bus, will get a sticker as they arrive, and we’ll tally up which class had the best participation. The class with the most walkers will win a special prize! (Pledge forms will be going home in backpacks tomorrow, but you can also get it here on the site.) Download the Walk to School Day Pledge Form

OCT 10
Friday is the annual Harvest Bake Sale, featuring all kinds of baked goods (as well as alternatives for students who prefer non-edible treats). Please bring in your donations of baked good on Friday morning, and send your children in with a few dollars for a special treat. For more information, contact Julie Douveas (jdouveas@hotmail.com).

OCT 13
Columbus Day – no school!

OCT 16
Picture Day – be sure to send your child in with the portrait order form filled out already.
It’s also the October PTA meeting, where we will honor September Students of the Month.
Fifth grade parents – if you’re interested in working on the graduation committee, please attend the first meeting at 6pm, just before the PTA meeting.

OCT 18
It’s the PTA yard sale! Save the date – flyers will go home in backpacks soon.

There’s a lot more coming up later in the month, so keep an eye on the calendar, and we’ll also send reminders.

See you at school!
From the PTA Executive Board
