September 2016 Events – Welcome back to school!

welcomebacktoschool

Dear PS 41 Families,

Welcome back to school! It’s great to see everyone! The children – and hopefully the grownups, too! – are well-rested, recharged, and excited to be back in school! It’s the first month and we have a lot of activities lined up.

Sep. 15Pesso’s Back to School Night (6:00-8:30 pm). Pesso’s Italian Ices (at 203-20 35th Avenue) will donate a portion of the evening’s proceeds to our school. Come and catch up with friends and meet more PS 41 families, teachers, and staff! Treat yourself and your kids to a water ice or an ice cream cone or a frozen yogurt or all of them! Just make sure to say that you’re from PS 41 so our school gets the donation.

Sep. 16Welcome Back Parents’ Breakfast (Grades K-2). At 8:30 am, parents of students in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade are invited to an informal breakfast at the school. It’s a great opportunity to meet fellow parents and PTA members, and to share your ideas and find out how you can get involved.

The Miss Chocolate Product Sale Kickoff starts on this day as well. Check your child’s folder for more information about this annual fundraising event.

Sep. 20District 26 Family Night at Citifield. Are you and your kids Mets fans? Our home team is going against the Atlanta Braves on this night. Did you reserve your tickets for this special game? If so, don’t forget that it begins at 7:00 pm. If you didn’t and you’re interested, there might still be a chance. Contact Jesse Paguaga of the Mets at 718-559-3046 and ask if there are still tickets for District 26 Family Night. Go Mets!

Sep. 21School Leadership Team Meeting. At 7:15 am, the School Leadership Team will hold a meeting with the Principal, Mr. Ferrara. The meeting is open to any parent who wishes to listen in on a discussion about academic and curricular issues.

Sep. 22Meet the teacher and PTA Meeting. At 4:30 pm, we can visit our kids’ classroom, and meet their homeroom teacher as well as their teachers in Art, Science, Music, and Computer. It’s a great introduction to the schoolyear and to understand what our children will be learning and doing. Please view our Meet the Teacher flyer for more details.  At 7:00 pm, join us at the first PTA Meeting of the year. The concern and efforts of PS 41 parents make many school events and programs possible – so come and get involved! Our participation enriches our children’s experience beyond the classroom.

Sep. 27Town Hall Meeting with Chancellor Carmen Fariña (6:00-7:30 pm). Parents and community members are invited to attend the meeting at MS 74. Hear Chancellor Fariña address issues and concerns of students and parents of schools in District 26.

Sep. 30Welcome Back Parents’ Breakfast (Grades 3-5). At 8:30 am, parents of students in third, fourth, and fifth grades are invited to an informal breakfast at the school. It’s your turn to meet fellow parents and PTA members, and to share your ideas and find out how you can get involved.

And, of course, PS 41 is going to celebrate its 100th birthday next month! What a milestone! We have many activities, fundraisers, and celebrations lined up for our school’s centennial and we will send you information about this special event in an upcoming email.

To sum up: let’s eat ice cream for a good cause, cheer for the Mets, and get ready to celebrate the school’s centennial! We’re going to have a great schoolyear!

Regards,

Trixie Reguyal

Co-corresponding Secretary
