How would you spend $1M?

unnamed

Do you have a minute to decide how $1m in NYC funding should be used?  We have a suggestion for a project that will address an urgent need within our Bayside community, and invest in the future of our community and children.

NYC’s 6th annual Participatory Budgeting Program PBNYC is underway and Vote Week runs from March 25th to April 2nd!

PS 41 Crocheron will be celebrating 100 years this year, and is in dire need of an electrical upgrade to support modern safety standards and support 21st century technologies.  Members of PS 41′s PTA have worked with NYC Council Member Paul Vallone’s Participatory Budgeting Office to submit our project proposal into this year’s PB cycle.  We have an opportunity to secure the funds needed to complete this important project for our school, but we need your votes!

Through Participatory Budgeting, our community can decide how at least $1 million is spent on improvements to NYC parks, schools, libraries, streets and more.  When this project began, Council member Paul Vallone’s office took suggestions from each of the communities within District 19 through several neighborhood assemblies. After gathering all of the project ideas, Vallone’s office coordinated with community volunteers, who served as Budget Delegates, to create a ballot of projects that would best serve our community’s needs. Budget Delegates met several times throughout the winter to narrow down the project ideas through field research, discussions, and consultation with city agencies. Over one hundred project ideas were analyzed for feasibility and practicality with help from city agencies, with nineteen projects ultimately being placed on the final ballot for voting.

PS 41 Centennial Electrical Upgrade

Our 100-year-old school requires an electrical upgrade to meet safety standards and support 21st Century technologies.

Since August, community members across all five boroughs have proposed and developed projects for improvements to schools, parks, libraries, public housing, and other public or community spaces as part of this year’s PB cycle.   Members of our PS 41 PTA have submitted a project proposal for an Electrical Upgrade and it is on this year’s ballot!

How can you help?  PS 41 parents will be dispersed throughout the community to collect your votes!  Every signature counts, every parent counts, every child counts!

Anyone over the age of 14 who lives within District 19 may vote!

How to Vote

You may cast your vote once either in person or online.  Anyone who lives in District 19 (Auburndale, Bayside, Bay Terrace, Beechhurst, College Point, Douglaston, Little Neck, North Flushing, Malba and Whitestone) and is at least 14 years old can vote, even if you are not registered or eligible to vote in electoral elections.  If you are unsure whether you live within District 19, please take a look at the 2017 District 19 Map.

Working with NYC Council Member Paul Vallone’s Participatory Budgeting (PB) Office, we have submitted our project proposal into this year’s PB voting cycle. We have an opportunity to secure the funds needed to complete this important project for our neighborhood school, but we need your votes!
